Steaming

This past weekend I went out to the Ranch in Dickson to help set up the final Trials of the year and the first Trials of next year. Every time I go through Dickson the route I take takes me past this beautiful old steam engine from the 1920's.

The wheel on the back of the engine is about 12 feet tall and the length of the engine is probably 30 feet long. If you read the story on the engine it was used for everything from building materials to baseball bats.

Dickson is a historical town and is really cool to see how towns used to be layed out. The down town area reminds me of the old towns where I grew up in Iowa. Maybe I can get some good pictures of the OLD DOWN TOWN AREA. Can you imagine a factory powered by a single steam engine these days. How about a steam powered Nintindo.
I love Vintage stuff.

Good blog. Ten years ago it looked like that old engine would just rust away, but Tennesco has made it possible for some folks to restore it and maintain it. I can just close my eyes and see all those belts running to saws and lathes and all other sorts of machines, all powered by the big dog in your pictures. Cool.
